How much does an automatic saddle stitcher cost?

Saddle stitchers are not priced as a single product. The same platform is sold at several points along an upgrade path, and the differences between those points are what move the price.

We do not publish list prices for these machines, because a quotation depends on the configuration, the destination and the volume of the order. What we can explain is which choices drive the number.

The platform decides the floor

Sheet width and spine capacity set the base. A wider platform has to handle larger flat sheets and stiffer folds, so the mechanism is heavier throughout — not only at the edges. That is why the step up in width usually costs more than a step up in features.

The add-ons decide the rest

Four things are priced separately: front trimming, side trimming, automatic cover feeding and collating. Each removes a specific manual step, and each therefore has a measurable value to a shop that performs that step often. A quoted machine with all four can cost substantially more than the base platform — and it should, because it is doing four more jobs.

Why comparing two quotes fails

A quote for a base platform and a quote for a full configuration are not competing offers. Before comparing price, line up: flat sheet size, spine capacity in sheets, stitching heads, which trims are in line, whether the cover is fed automatically, and output per hour at a realistic job. Two machines are comparable only when those match.

How to think about the number

The useful comparison is not against another machine but against your current cost per booklet. Count the operator minutes per job now, including the trips to the cutter and the hand-feeding. Multiply by your labour rate and your annual job count. That figure, not the purchase price, is what the machine is being bought against — and it is usually what makes the decision obvious in one direction or the other.

Send us your job mix and current handling steps and we will quote the configuration that fits it, rather than the largest one available.
